Day Eight Challenge

A little about the barn you ride at.

The barn I ride at is awesome!!! There's a huge covered arena, a huge outdoor arena, two round pens and a lot of covered places to tack up!! In addition to that, we have lights in most of the tack rooms and in the covered arena. It's perfect for winter riding when the days get short. The ranch also is a really nice facility with great people and a LOT of horses. The only thing we don't have is trail access. There's pasture that we can ride in, but no trail.

  1. That does sound nice. How far would you have to trailer to get to trails?

  2. It depends. There are a handful of trails within 15 minutes or so, and even more within half an hour. But since I don't have a truck or trailer, that makes it problematic haha. The pasture we have to ride on is really hilly, so at least there's that. It doesn't feel like your just out riding on a flat pasture

    1. Well, it is certainly better than nothing to have the nice arenas for sure.
Oddly enough, even though I live out of town, in a state that has less people per capita than any other state in the nation, there really are very few places to trail ride that are close to me. I can ride along side the roads and most have nice wide "barrow pits" so we don't have to ride very close, but if you have a spooky horse it can be a problem. Luckily for me, my horses could care less about traffic. There is a lot of "trust" land within a few miles of us, but the people who lease it for cattle seem to get very upset if we ride through even though we always close the gates behind us. So al the trailes designed specifically for horses require driving quite a ways.

    2. Oh thats frustrating! Where my boyfriend lives is the same way. He lives out in the country north of me, where the nearest store is 5 miles away, and its about 15 minutes to get into town, but even though everything around him is pasture and houses, theres nowhere to ride!

  3. That sounds nice! I came from a barn with a huge well lit indoor arena, nice tack stalls, and a round pen. My current barn has a decent sized indoor arena, a huge outdoor arena, and trails on the property. You win some, you lose, some. But I do like my current barn, better for Shy overall.

    1. Thats another thing that I love about my barn too, its sooo good for pony! its set up with mini pastures, probably between half an acre and an acre each, with shelters, and between two and four horses in each area. I like that they have a lot of space, shelter, and friends! Horses are really meant to be with other horses i believe.

    1. Yeah, I definitely wish we had more trails..the last barn I was at had awesome trails everywhere, but unfortunately the barn was a toxic environment. So even though i gave up the trails by changing barns, I definitely prefer the people, environment etc of the new one!
